Regrow hair
experiment:

"cold scalp baldness"
that affects some.
.

Tom has been working on the blood circulation aspect of baldness.
Touch a very bald area.  If it feels cold,  then you likely WON'T be
getting regrowth there for awhile. Eventually, yes.
Tom is trying to accelerate it.
Read Brush hair clean? thread where Tom first discussed this idea.
Now, he's come up with an experiment to further understand
...and perhaps solve...this problem:
 Request: Participate in this Experiment!
"I'm trying to get some ideas around blood-circulation in the scalp.
Naturally, a little liniment on your body will increase heat in that area!"
I did it.  Easy...and quickly got the predicted result:
no more COLD scalp!
Logically helps regrowth...but as yet unproven.

After I "bumped" above thread to top of forum with  "Help Wanted" ad,
Tom posted this thread:

Everyone that lost more when quitting shampoo ...

??? LOST more hair?
Is shampoo a chemical addiction???
Seems so. It's certainly a psychological addiction.

Not very encouraging by nic
I seem to have been shedding lots of hair everytime
I have a shower (with water only) - so much so that
I actually dread taking a shower now!

After reading nic's comments above,
I posted Brush hair clean?.by hairguy:

NO more water on my scalp.
I brush hair for about two minutes four times a day.
Sides and back are brushed UP. Top (still scant but coming) is brushed forward
 and back.

I had already started casually brushing about two weeks before posting this "Brush
hair clean?" thread and could "feel" an effect. If there are results, I won't attribute
them to brushing as my entire scalp has recently gone "active" with sensations.
I doubt that I'll see "general regrowth" but I think the "endgame"* is finally underway.
No guess as to how long that may take. I'm now two months into my tenth year.
I had originally thought my hair would regrow in a year. Duhhh.

Someone posted that a Japanese study showed "water only" removes 90% of dirt
from scalp. I'm sure that a regularly cleaned brush will do that and ALSO remove
excess oil and air pollutants. My hair looks like a TV ad: clean, lustrous, and FULL.
And it's "springy". If only I could afford Botox for my sunken cheeks...

*Three months into my 11th year, I posted Before & After pictures
in SiteForSoreEyes forum. Link is via Hair Archaeology just above.

WHEN MY regrowth 'evidence' becomes apparent...as it  soon will...,

then those dedicated to KEEPING/REGROWING hair will
STOP wasting their time and money
on the DUMB idea that chemicals
will regrow hair as though it were little different than
chemically/////growing grass/////.

Q. Have you been shampooing with gasoline or dishwashing detergent?

A. Most likely! Laurimide DEA is used in a shampoo to strip debris
.....and add lather. It is also used in dishwashing detergent. If a person
.....is experiencing hair loss or other scalp problems, it is advisable to
.....avoid chemicals in shampoos such as:

—Sodium laurel, laureate or laureth sulfate (SLS) sodium dodecyl
....sulfate (SDS) or ammonium laurel, laureth sulfate or sulfeth which.
....have 7 day ½ lives and damage follicles by acting as a degreasing
....agent. They are a gasoline derivatives. See "a little math" below.

—Nitrosol diethelanolamine (DEA) or cocamide DEA - (cancer
....causing agent) See NBC news story below.

—Alpha hydroxy acids - glycolic, lactic or malic acids
Ethelene oxide
—Isopropyl alcohol
—Mineral oil
—Sodium Chloride - (table salt causing dry scalp)

These chemicals are found in over 95% of all commercial shampoos.
There is evidence that these chemicals actually corrode the hair follicle
and impair the ability of hair to grow. SLS seems to cause a dramatic
decline in the hair growth cycle, prolonging  the hair loss phase
(normally three months) by a factor of eight.

Simply removing the corrosive and irritating effects of these ingredients
begins to restore the healthy function of the hair follicle.

"...by a factor of eight."

forum member Doo did a little math with this phrase from above:  have 7 day ½ lives

Save your memory...stop shampooing!

NBC news story
Ingredient In Shampoo May Affect Memory

The research in animals centers around diethanolamine (DEA),
a chemical used in shampoos, lotions, creams and other cosmetics.
DEA is used widely because it provides a rich lather in shampoos
and keeps a favorable consistency in lotions and creams, but there's
also some research that shows it may rob the brain of its ability to
make memory cells.

In the late 1980s, scientists realized that alpha-lipoic acid, a compound initially classified as a vitamin when it was discovered three decades earlier, possessed potent antioxidant properties that could prevent healthy cells from getting damaged by unstable oxygen molecules called free radicals. In fact, this vitaminlike compound has proved to be many times more potent than such old guard antioxidants as vitamins C and E. As perk, it even recycles C and E (as well as other antioxidants), enhancing their effectiveness.

Because it dissolves in both water and fat, this so-called "universal antioxidant" is able to scavenge more wayward free-radical cells than most antioxidants, the majority of which tend to dissolve in either fat or water but not both. Alpha-lipoic acid can reach tissues composed mainly of fat, such as the nervous system, as well as those made mainly of water, such as the heart.

Also known as lipoic acid or thioctic acid, alpha-lipoic acid is mainly derived from dietary sources (spinach, liver, brewer's yeast), although scientists have discovered that the body does manufacture small supplies of its own. In order to get the concentrated doses needed to treat specific ailments, however, many experts recommend supplements.

Health Benefits

In addition to functioning as an antioxidant, this hard-working nutrient assists the B vitamins in producing energy from the proteins, carbohydrates, and fats consumed through foods.

You can buy alpha-lipoic acid either as a single supplement or in combination products with other antioxidants, such as vitamins C and E.

beta-sisterol (also spelled beta sisterol, betasisterol)
SOURCE:  Beta-sitosterol is an important phytosterol found in
fruits like bananas, oranges, and avocados contain the most
 beta-sitosterol.

 beta-sisterol
 wholehealthMD.com

Interestingly, phytosterols so closely resemble cholesterol that they
can actually block food-based cholesterol from being absorbed into
the bloodstream. The result is that both phytosterols and dietary
cholesterol end up excreted in waste matter.

 [Guidelines for Use]

Because phytosterols help block dietary cholesterol adsorption, they
 should be taken with meals.

Beta-sitosterol, when used for prostate enlargement, is generally taken
on an empty stomach to enhance its absorption into the bloodstream.

Some research has shown that phytosterols can slightly lower
concentrations of fat-soluble vitamins such as beta-carotene, but other
studies show no such effect. Although carotene levels normally vary
with the seasons, it may be a reasonable precaution to increase your
intake of beta-carotene (or carotene-containing foods such as carrots,
yellow squash, and sweet potatoes) while taking phytosterol
 supplements.

If you are taking phytosterols in the margarine form, simply replace
your usual spread. You may need to eat somewhat larger amounts than
you are accustomed to in order to achieve an effective dose.

Be sure to check out our Dosage Recommendations Chart which lists
therapeutic dosages for specific ailments at a glance.

 evening primrose oil

wow!  SiteForSoreEyes forum post by ch2:  (ch2 is a college student.)

But as for supplements, MSM- increases hair and nail growth rate,
and is meant to increase hair 'brilliance'.
I tried it for a while but now only take it occasionally.

Evening Primrose Oil- contains Gamma Linoleic Acid, which is
proven to be an inhibotor of DHT.

Green Tea- meant to inhibit DHT..and is a proven detoxifier of the
body, and after a while begins to taste quite nice.

[The next post is in same thread as above but 12 posts later.]

wow!  SiteForSoreEyes forum post by ch2:  (ch2 is a college student.)

On a site about facial hair in women it stated that any kind of skin
irritation/damage will cause an increase on the enzyme 5 alpha
reductase. This is the enzyme responsible for turning Testosterone
into  DHT. Which modern science believes is the culprit behind
hairloss. In women this was causing facial hair growth. In much the
same way the natural presence of testosterone in men causes the
same. But in men when testosterone is converted into DHT near a
susceptible hair follicle the DHT latches onto the hair follicle
 impeding growth in some manner.

é DHT  as a baldness cause is UTTER nonsense.
The idea was floated THRICE in SiteForSoreEyes. It keeps getting 'rediscovered'.

 evening primrose oil
 wholehealthMD.com

In another era, Native Americans and the early settlers gathered the plant and its root to treat such ailments as hemorrhoids, stomachaches, sore throat, and bruises.  It took modern research to unveil the therapeutic power contained within the seed oil:  an essential fatty acid (EFA) called gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). Once processed in the body, GLA, an omega-6 fatty acid, exerts anti-inflammatory and other healing actions.

Evening primrose oil is certainly not the only source of GLA; various foods actually contain small amounts of it and the body produces GLA  on its own from a number of dietary fats.

...when the oil is taken long term, GLA can help prevent blood vessel narrowing, often a consequence of plaque buildup from high cholesterol.

Sold as a supplement.

 Arthritis Today
DMSO (which stands for dimethyl sulfoxide) is a versatile compound with many uses and a checkered past.

It is both a prescription drug and an industrial solvent.  It’s formed as a byproduct of wood pulp processing; its use is determined by the quality: You will find industrial-grade DMSO in paint thinner and antifreeze, and medical-grade  DMSO in many medical laboratories.  Its industrial usefulness comes from its remarkable solvent qualities, and much of its medical value from its ability to transport other substances through cell membranes.  It is also reported to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

...study DMSO, they found that 15 percent of DMSO was broken down into another sulfur compound in the human body. The compound, which they called MSM, had many of the helpful qualities of DMSO, with some distinct advantages:   It lacked the distinctive oyster-garlic smell; it didn’t have the sullied history of DMSO; and it could be sold directly to consumers as a dietary supplement.

Tell your doctor if you get diarrhea, stomach upsets or mild cramps; these side effects are common, especially at higher doses. Lowering the dose may stop these symptoms.

Make your own decisions as to value and safety of above products.
